Hello! My name is Angeliki and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), based in Los Angeles.
I was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and I moved to the US to attend graduate school in California and Massachusetts.
Besides my MSc. in Clinical Psychology, I have a Masters in Foreign Policy Analysis and a Ph.D. in International Relations. I bring a background as university faculty in Peace and Conflict Studies and as researcher in the areas of ethnic conflict and genocide studies, and more recently in negative mood regulation among individuals experiencing sudden events as well as refugees.
My exposure to different lines of research, cultures and hundreds of students as their teacher and mentor, has taught me the value of continuous growth through learning and community involvement. With each client I use a tailor-made approach. For example, while I tend to foster an insight into my clients’ experiences through a psychodynamic lense, I also use a hear-and-now philosophy through mindfulness, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).
I specialize in trauma, attachment injuries and depression and anxiety. To treat trauma, I use different tools such as clinical (Ericksonian) hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Yet trauma does not happen in a vacuum. It is often rooted in one’s early attachment which leaves behind symptoms of depression, anxiety as well as self-harming habits.
My mission is to accompany you through life’s inevitable challenges. I will assist you in not only overcoming a difficult patch but also, in growing through it and in spite of it. You deserve realizing your fullest potential, fostered by your therapist’s unconditional positive regard, along with therapeutic input. No two clients are ever the same. Therefore, we too as therapists evolve alongside you in our knowledge and intuition. Through our shared experience of therapy, you will increase your insight, and as a result, you will discover more available choices during, say, a complex transition that you experience or a seeming impasse.
I love working with people and helping them become their own therapists. I have thrived mentoring students and showing them how to build inner motivation resources. I believe that change comes “one mind at a time.” The therapeutic process will allow you to become mindfully aware and understanding of yourself and others. After all, “the truth shall set us free.”
